Work on Oxford Gideon roundabout starts July 15

On Monday, July 15, construction will begin on the new roundabout at the intersection of Oxford Street West and Gideon Drive. This work will require the closure of Gideon Drive and Kains Road at Oxford Street West to build a temporary bypass road along Oxford Street West, and to accommodate an upcoming sanitary sewer installation.

A temporary bypass road will ensure Oxford West traffic can be maintained for most of the project.

Motorists traveling along Gideon Drive and Kains Road will be directed to use the designated detour route, along Woodhull Road, to Elviage Drive, Westdel Bourne and back up to Oxford Street West, as shown in the attached map.

Safe pedestrian paths and signage will be installed for any temporary sidewalk restrictions during construction. There are no transit impacts associated with this project.

Future work

The Oxford Gideon roundabout project will continue into the summer of 2025, for asphalt, restoration and clean up. During this time, Kains Road will be closed to traffic.

About the project

Gideon Drive accommodates over 2,500 vehicles in a typical day. Oxford Street is a major east-west corridor connecting surrounding areas west of the city to the downtown core, Fanshawe College and the London International Airport. The ongoing and future developments in west London and beyond the city limits are anticipated to increase the traffic demands at this intersection. The new multi-lane roundabout will provide additional capacity, new active transportation infrastructure, improved connectivity and enhanced safety.
