As you browse the open job opportunities, you may notice different types of employment. In addition to regular full-time, part-time and temporary positions, we also have:

Student and co-op placements

These opportunities provide students with practical hands-on work experience. We offer several student and co-op opportunities throughout the year. These positions are typically recruited and filled through a partnership with an education institution.

Temporary labourers

We hire hundreds of Temporary Labourers to help maintain important City infrastructure and services. These positions are full-time and run from April to November, or May to August, every year. Teams that hire temporary labourers include Wastewater Treatment, Parks, Golf, Water, Sewer, Road Operations, Facilities, Fleet and Waste Collection (these positions are called Temporary Sanitation Operators).

Summer and seasonal positions

Several administrative positions are available each summer in different areas across the organization. Ideal for post-secondary students, these positions run from May to August. Postings for these appear on our website between December and February. Other casual positions run through July and August, including opportunities for our day camps, pools and Storybook Gardens. These positions are ideal for high school students.

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) positions

We provide a variety of permanent, full-time Engineer-in-Training (EIT) positions. Canidates must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and actively be working towards obtaining their professional engineering (P. Eng.) licence with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). These positions rotate through various divisions, such as Water, Stormwater, Transportation, Construction Administration and Development Services to provide employees with the opportunity to experience a wide range of municipal and civil engineering sectors.

Casual positions

These positions offer flexible hours and shifts, with up to 24 hours per week. They may be ideal for students, those with other part-time employment and retirees.

Internships

We are proud to host several paid internships throughout our organization that provide unique experiences for our candidates. These opportunities are typically offered on a full-time, temporary basis.
