About the LMLIP

What is a Local Immigration Partnership (LIP)?

LIPs are community-based coalitions funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to enhance the integration of newcomers into Canadian communities.

By bringing together diverse groups- including local governments, service providers, educational institutions, employers, and community organizations- LIPs develop and implement strategies tailored to the unique needs of their regions. Their primary objectives are:

• Building connections: developing community partnerships to streamline approaches to settlement
• Speaking up: communicating immigrant needs
• Coordinating services: ensuring settlement services are efficient, accessible, and responsive to newcomers’ needs
• Fostering collaboration: encouraging partnerships among various sectors to address systemic challenges faced by immigrants
• Promoting inclusion: creating welcoming communities that recognize and value the contributions of newcomers
• Spreading the word: promoting the work of service providers to immigrants

Since their inception, LIPs have been pivotal in community-level research, information sharing, partnership building, and strategic planning to support immigrant settlement and integration.

What is the London and Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership?

The London Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership (LMLIP) was established in 2009 and co-led by the City of London. The LMLIP focuses on the following areas, aiming to create a stronger and healthier region:

• Education
• Employment
• Health and Wellbeing
• Inclusion and Civic Engagement
• Settlement

An LMLIP Sub-Council leads each domain. The Sub-Councils meet regularly to identify barriers newcomers are experiencing and develop connection and resources to address them. Through these efforts, the LMLIP strives to ensure newcomers feel welcomed, safe, and supported in the London and Middlesex region.
