We are hiring election workers for different positions at voting places across the city on Election Day Monday, October 26, 2026. The election worker roles, responsibilities, and pay rates are noted below.

- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Cannot be a candidate, related to a candidate, campaigning for a candidate, or providing an endorsement signature to a candidate running in October 26, 2026, Municipal Election.
- Must attend a mandatory in-person training session.
Job Descriptions
Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) - $350.00 for training and Election Day
The DRO duties include requesting and verifying voter ID, issuing ballots, striking voters' names off the Voters’ List, providing voting instructions to voters, as well as processing election forms to add or change voter information. Duties also include administering oaths, signing documentation and ensuring that candidate representatives follow legislation and procedures and responding to voter inquiries. The DRO assists in setting up, opening, and closing the Voting Place as well as picking up election supplies, verifying proper supplies have been provided and returning supplies to the assigned receiving centre. DROs must have access to a vehicle before Election Day to pick up election supplies and on Election Day to return those supplies to their assigned return centre, as they are responsible for the safe transport of all election materials.
Tabulator Operator - $300.00 for training and Election Day
The Tabulator Operator duties include picking up the tabulator, opening and closing of the Voting Place and tabulator, feeding ballots into the tabulator, ensuring the security of the tabulator, responding to voter inquiries, and escalating problems to the Poll Supervisor. Tabulator Operators must have access to a vehicle before their assignment on Election Day to pick up the tabulator and on Election Day as they are responsible for getting the tabulator to the Voting Place.
Registration Officer - $250.00 for training and Election Day
The Registration Officer duties include ensuring that all voters are on the Voters’ List, preparing forms and certificates for voters who require their information to be corrected or updated, ensuring that voters are at the correct Voting Place, ensuring correct documents are supplied and filled, directing voters to their correct DRO table, and administering oaths, where necessary. They direct questions to Poll Supervisor and respond to voter inquiries pertaining to the forms and certificates.
Information Officer - $220.00 for training and Election Day
The Information Officer assists in the set-up and opening of the Voting Place. The Information Officer is placed at the entrance of the Voting Place and helps voters locate the voting room, highlights accessible routes of travel, responds to voting inquiries, and escalates issues to the Poll Supervisor, if necessary.
Training Sessions
If your application is successful, you will receive next steps with training dates and more information via the email you provided on your application. All election workers must complete mandatory in person training regardless of previous election experience.
Hours on Election Day
Polls open at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
Election workers are required to be available from 9:00 a.m. until ballots are returned on Election Day (Monday, October 26, 2026).
