Sports in London, Ontario

It’s not only trees that grow in the Forest City -- championships do too! London has a long and rich history of sport ranging from winning teams (like the London Knights and London Lightning) to gold-medal-winning Olympians like Tessa Virtue.

The London Knights are an Ontario Hockey League franchise that play in the Budweiser Gardens downtown -- one of the marquee arenas in the league. Every Friday night during the winter (along with a few other days), you’ll find approximately 9,000 Londoners at the arena, cheering on the green and gold.

The London Lightning are a newer addition to the sporting landscape, but they’ve been extremely successful in their decade of existence. This basketball team also plays out of the Budweiser Gardens and is a member of the National Basketball League of Canada.

On the other hand, the Intercounty Baseball League’s London Majors are one of the city’s oldest institutions, founded in 1925 and playing out of Labatt Park -- a beautiful baseball stadium that has the distinction of being the oldest continually used baseball stadium in North America.

There are a number of other teams across various sports, including the London Tecumsehs, FC London, London Nationals, and London Beefeaters. London’s higher education facilities also have numerous teams, so Londoners can go out and support their Western Mustangs and Fanshawe Falcons in any number of sports.
