What is Carpooling?
Carpooling is sharing a ride with at least one other person to reduce driving costs and reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
Carpooling is a more sustainable option for individuals who do not need their car every day and have a consistent work or school schedule. In addition to helping curb greenhouse gas emissions, it’s a more cost-effective way to travel. Just carpooling one day a week means a 20% reduction in weekly wear and tear on your vehicle.
Smart Commute London offers support to employers and employees in using more sustainable choices of transportation for their work commute. Employer members can use the Smart Commute tool to find carpool matches.
What is Car sharing?
Car sharing is a type of car rental where people rent cars for short periods of time. It enables occasional use of a vehicle or access to different kinds of vehicles.
Car sharing is an ideal option for people who regularly rely on walking, cycling and/or public transit for their daily transportation, but occasionally need access to a vehicle for out-of-town trips, moving large items or other special occasions.
By paying membership to a car sharing service, you have access to a fleet of vehicles on an hourly basis when the need arises.
Communauto (formerly Vrtucar) is the car sharing service operating in London.
