Please note, this program is not intended for pets who have health concerns. If you have a health concern, please consult with your regular Veterinarian.
The City of London manages two programs aimed at controlling the growing cat population in our city:
Feral cats, also known as community cats, are not socialized, ‘wild’ cats living outdoors. They avoid humans and usually run away when approached. Feral cats are very untrusting – so much so, they will often wait to go to food if humans are in sight.
Stray cats on the other hand were once pets. They are tame, friendly and allow you to get close and pet them. Stray cats can be rescued and adopted into a home. Stray cats from within the City of London boundaries can be taken to the London Animal Care Centre.
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is humane and the most effective approach for managing feral cats. TNR has been practiced around the world for decades and is grounded in science.
All eligible cats will be assessed by the Veterinarian and receive spay or neuter surgery, Rabies and FVRCP vaccines, parasite treatment, a microchip, tattoo and will have their left ear tipped at no charge.

Spaying or neutering helps reduce pet overpopulation by eliminating unwanted litters, reducing the burden of homeless animals on the community and animal shelters. It reduces or removes the risk of disease, infection, and cancer of the pet’s reproductive system (mammary cancer, prostate cancer, uterus infection). It also reduces hormone-related behaviours (urine marking, roaming, aggression).
Our subsidy program is intended to ease the financial burden some London households face when considering spaying or neutering their pet.
