The Accommodation and Food Services industry was home to approximately 835 establishments and employed 17,785 people in 2023, making up 8.1% of the employment share, thus making it one of London’s key sectors (top 5) (Lightcast, December 16, 2024 , London CY). The city’s accommodation and food services sector was projected to make healthy output gains in 2024, despite the overall slowdown in economic activity. Looking ahead into 2025, the arts and entertainment industry will lead the way on output growth, as real GDP in this sector is forecast to grow by 4.2%. The city’s accommodations and food services sector won’t be far behind, with output projected to rise by 2.8%.

The UNESCO City of Music designation strengthens the accommodation and food services industry by attracting more visitors, encouraging longer stays, and providing opportunities for creative partnerships and marketing. This designation reaffirms that London is an international hub for music and culture, which is likely to generate sustained economic benefits for hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality businesses. In addition, London is strategically located in the heart of southwestern Ontario between Toronto and Detroit and within two hours of three major U.S. border crossings - Sarnia/Port Huron, Windsor/Detroit, and Niagara/Buffalo. This location makes London an ideal stopover point for travellers, providing a large customer base for the accommodation and food services industry.
