The City maintains London's many parks by mowing grass, cleaning paths, and collecting garbage. We are also grateful for the little things you do, like carrying out your trash, picking up your litter, or lending a hand to keep our spaces clean. Together, we make our parks welcoming for everyone.
Getting parks ready for activities and recreation
This Spring, we will be getting parks ready to welcome Londoners back for outdoor activities again.
- Public tennis nets will be installed by mid-April (weather permitting)
- Premier sports fields are expected to open the week of May 5 (weather permitting)
- All outdoor sports fields will open by May 12
Park washrooms and field houses will open by the May long weekend.
Crews have been out addressing fallen or damaged tree branches in parks from recent storms, but residents may continue to see some downed branches in less accessible locations over the coming weeks while this work continues.
Spring clean ups
Cleanup efforts begin in parks in late April, with seasonal park preparations continuing into May.
Additional garbage cans start returning to parks in mid-April, with all seasonal containers in place by May.
Keeping London clean and green is something we all share. Thank you to everyone who helps by properly disposing of waste, taking garbage home when bins are not available and reporting litter or illegal dumping through the Service London portal at service.london.ca.
If you would like to help with the spring refresh, there are lots of opportunities to get involved. The annual London Clean & Green promotes community-led clean-ups across the city, creating opportunities for teams, employees, and community members to contribute to a cleaner, more vibrant London.
Grass cutting and garbage collection schedules
Park maintenance is carried out in a regular rotation, with priority given to busier parks. These service schedules are based on the season, weather conditions, staffing levels and equipment condition, and are subject to change. During wet weather, for example, it can be difficult for our machinery to cut grass and our schedule needs to adjust.
Major parks
Major parks such as Springbank Park, Victoria Park and Harris Park have the following maintenance schedule:
- Mowing once weekly
- Trimming once weekly
