Accessible elections

The City of London is committed to making the 2026 Municipal Election accessible to voters, candidates, election workers and volunteers.

The City works to identify, remove and prevent barriers so persons with disabilities can take part in the election independently and with dignity.

Accessible voting tools and services

The following tools and services will be available during the 2026 Municipal Election:

  • Magnifiers at all voting locations.
  • Candidate lists and voting instructions in braille and large print at each voting location.
  • Pictorial voting instructions at all voting locations.
  • Ballots designed using accessible fonts, sizes and colours.
  • Accessible ballot-marking devices at all Advance Vote locations. These devices support independent voting using sip-and-puff technology, paddles or a tactile device.
  • On-site American Sign Language interpretation throughout Advance Vote at City Hall.
  • Accessible “How to Vote” information featuring American Sign Language interpretation and closed captioning.

Getting help at a voting location

Tell an election worker when you arrive if you need assistance. Election workers will be trained to support voters with different accessibility needs.

Available assistance includes:

  • Bringing a friend or relative to help you mark your ballot. The person assisting you must take an oath confirming they will mark the ballot according to your instructions.
  • Upon request, asking an election worker to read or help you mark your ballot.
  • Upon request, voting from another area at the voting location, including curbside, with help from a Deputy Returning Officer.
  • Using your own assistive device.
  • Attending with a service animal or support person.

Your privacy will be respected throughout the voting process.

Accessible voting locations

All voting locations will be reviewed for accessibility before they are used.

The City will:

  • Consider access by public transit when reviewing voting locations.
  • Identify accessible parking spaces near the closest accessible entrance.
  • Clearly mark accessible entrances and routes with prominent signage.

If your assigned voting location does not meet your accessibility needs, contact the Elections Office before Voting Day to request a transfer to another voting location.

If an unexpected issue affects access to a voting location during Advance Vote or on Voting Day, updates will be posted as soon as possible on london.ca, through the City’s social media channels and at the affected location.

Accessible election information

Election information is available in alternate formats and with communication supports upon request.

This includes information about voting, voting locations, the revised ward boundaries and election procedures. Contact the Elections Office to request an alternate format or an explanation of election information.

Accessibility information for candidates

Candidates can request election information and materials in accessible or alternate formats.

The City also provides information to help candidates make their campaigns, communications and all-candidates meetings more accessible. This includes guidance on:

  • Provide candidates with information on how to make their campaign accessible to the public.
  • Provide candidates with references and links to provincial publications at the time of nomination, including Accessible Campaign Information and Communication
  • Provide candidates with a ccess to information in alternative and accessible formats
  • Provide a Candidate Information Session and recording of the session on the City’s website
  • Provide the City of London Voters’ List in multiple formats, upon request
  • Provide accommodation and special information services upon request

Accessible Election Plan and reports

The City’s Accessible Election Plan explains how accessibility barriers will be identified, removed and prevented during the 2026 Municipal Election.

Within 90 days after Voting Day, the City Clerk will publish a report outlining the accessibility measures used during the election and opportunities for future improvements.

The City welcomes feedback about the accessibility of London’s municipal election.

Elections staff will review accessibility concerns and respond directly with information about anticipated next steps and timelines.
