City of London Community Grants Metric Tool

A metric is a measurement of what you want to achieve.  It is used to track performance, behaviours or a process.

The metric is part of the measurement used in the Funding Alignment section of the grant application.  It follows the selected Strategic Area of Focus, Outcome and Expected Result, demonstrating the impact the funding will have in the city.

A metric is:

• a short and impactful message
• less than 10 words and
• identifies a target

Step one: Determine metric(s)

For each metric used, select the target descriptor that suits your program demographic such as; X # of children, youth, families, residents, newcomers, parents, individuals, Indigenous individuals, community partners, women, Londoners, Muslim women, older adults etc. Below is a list of sample metrics If your program is not reflected in the list of metrics below, create a metric based on the steps provided below.

Example sample metrics:

• X # youth have increased life skills
• X # families have access to basic needs
• X # residents are educated about waste, water or energy reduction;
• X # Londoners have increased access to anti-black racism education

Step two: Develop the target number for each metric

Insert the unit of measurement for each metric.

Example units of measurement:

• 78 youth have increased life skills
• 159 families have access to basic needs
• 300 residents are educated about waste, water or energy reduction;
• 120 Londoners have increased access to anti-black racism education

Step three: Insert the metric from step two into the application form

• For each project, choose a Strategic Area of Focus and up to two (2) associated Outcomes
• Based on the Outcomes chosen, choose up to two (2) Expected Results
• Insert up to two (2) metrics for each selected Expected Result

Funding Alignment Example

Strategic Area of Focus: Wellbeing and Safety

Outcome: London is an affordable and supportive community for individuals and families.

Expected Result: Londoners have equitable access to key services, community supports, and recreational opportunities that enhance wellbeing and resilience

Metric:

• 50 older adults feel connected/included/engaged in their community;
• 30 Sudanese families have increased awareness of community services and resources to meet their needs
