Greenway Park and Greenway Off-Leash Dog Park

In 2024 and 2025, the City of London will be making improvements at the Greenway Wastewater Treatment Plant to improve flood protection and our resiliency to climate change.

  • The construction work will mainly consist of building an earth berm around the perimeter of the Greenway Wastewater Treatment Plant but will use walls in certain locations due to the nature of the terrain and footprint limitations. This work will require a significant amount of large construction machinery (i.e., excavators, loaders, dump trucks and cranes). It will impact the surrounding areas and some city amenities will be disrupted.
  • Thames Valley Parkway (TVP) / Terry Fox Parkway: At a certain phase of the project, it is expected that a closure of Terry Fox Parkway and the TVP will be required to facilitate work along the north side of Greenway Wastewater Treatment Plant. “No Through Access” in either direction will be possible through the active construction zone for the safety of the public. It is anticipated that the closure could be as long as six months, starting in late 2024 and lasting until spring of 2025.
  • Greenway Off-leash Dog Park: The anticipated closure of the Terry Fox Parkway and TVP is expected to affect vehicle access to the off-leash dog park for the duration of the work. The dog park will remain open, but it will only be able to be accessed by foot or bicycle from Wonderland Road. The City is developing plans for a temporary alternate off-leash dog park with vehicle access nearby. When details are confirmed, they will be posted to the Get Involved webpage here.

This project includes:

  • Cleanout and removal of accumulated stone, brush, and debris from the watercourse.
  • Removal of deteriorated stone gabion baskets and replacing with a reinforced vegetated revetment.
  • Restoration of natural riparian and aquatic habitat.
  • River access features:
    • Introducing a new lookout point,
    • Improving the existing river access point with parking area (same location),
    • Improving the existing fishing platform (same location),
    • Proposed secondary pathway, benches, trees, and educational signage, as well as a minor realignment of the Thames Valley Parkway.

Murray Park

The short and long-term design of this park is expected to include improved infrastructure such as new site furniture, play equipment, trees, sport amenities, wading pool (or potential spray pad), public gathering space, and possible pathway enhancements. The main benefit of the project is maintaining this neighbourhood park to ensure that it meets the needs of the community and is safe and accessible to everyone.

The project is expected to occur in two phases, subject to public input and budget approvals.

  • Phase 1 in 2024 will include improvements to existing park amenities and the addition of a new park feature (possibly as a basketball court, subject to public input) in replacement of the existing poor condition tennis court. The existing playground will be replaced by new play equipment to provide a variety of play experiences for children between 2 and 12 years old. The safety surfacing in the play area will be engineered woodchips. Construction of Phase 1 for this project is expected to start in late summer 2024. Please note that the schedule is dependent on weather conditions.
  • Phase 2 (timing to be determined) is anticipated to include upgrades to the wading pool (possibly as a spray pad, subject to public input) and the existing fieldhouse. Subject to public input, this phase may require a reduction in the soccer fields and changes to park lighting to better accommodate City standards for a wading pool/spray pad and washroom facility.

The City is seeking your input as to what features and amenities your community would like to see at this neighbourhood park. Please share your comments online at getinvolved.london.ca/MurrayPark. Feedback is being collected until April 4, 2024. Thank you to all that participate.
