The London Fire Department has implemented a temporary ban on all open air fires within the City of London, effective Monday, August 11, due to ongoing hot and dry conditions.
As per the Open Air Burning By-law, open air fires include bonfires, campfires, strike burn cans or burns in any type of can or barrel, chimineas, fire tables and fire pits.
This ban does not apply to Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC)/Canadian Standards Association (CSA) listed charcoal, propane or natural gas barbecues used for cooking or ULC/CSA-listed propane fueled fire tables and fire pots.
This ban will remain in effect until further notice. All active burn permits are suspended, and no new permits will be issued until the ban is lifted. For the duration of the ban, the London Fire Department will not issue any display fireworks permits.
Residents with questions about this should contact London Fire Department, Fire Prevention Division at 519-661-4565, email fireforms@london.ca or visit london.ca/openairburning.
