For the third year, Core Area Construction Dollars return to support core area businesses during London’s busiest construction season.
From now until November 2022, people visiting the core area can receive Core Area Construction Dollars from the Downtown London Business Association and Old East Village BIA as well as their businesses, through giveaways, contests, events, and promotions.
Construction Dollars are vouchers in $5, $10 and $20-dollar amounts that can be redeemed at participating businesses in the core area until November 30, 2022. No purchase is required to use Core Area Construction Dollars and businesses are reimbursed 100 percent of the value of each Construction Dollar through the Core Area Action Plan.
“This is a record year for construction, with a major focus on downtown, where we’re building better connections to and through the core with the Downtown Loop and East London Link projects,” says Jennie Dann, Director of Construction and Infrastructure Services at the City of London. “While we work to revitalize the core through these key projects, Construction Dollars will help to support local businesses.”
Valid Construction Dollars are marked with the year “2022” and can be spent between now and November 30, 2022. The program first launched in 2020 and is one of the City’s ongoing supports for local businesses.
“Old East Village businesses have whole heartedly embraced the Construction Dollar program and our OEV customers are eager to receive this ‘mad money’ in order to enjoy an extra special outing in OEV while supporting hyper local”, says Jen Pastorius, Manager, Old East Village BIA. “Each year the demand for the program grows and therefore this year OEV BIA will be distributing over $20,000 at various Cash Mobs at the OEV Friday events.”
“During the construction season, our downtown businesses remain open” says Barbara Maly, Executive Director, Downtown London. “London’s downtown has several new businesses and restaurants, many old favorites, great patios and fantastic events and entertainment options and Construction Dollars are an added bonus to help customers and visitors explore our unique offerings.”
The Core Area Construction Dollars program is a four-year pilot program funded by the City through the Core Area Action Plan, which was developed with local stakeholders to support the core and generate new growth and investment. Delivered through the BIAs, this program will contribute over $90,000 into the local economy this year, incentivizing customers to shop, dine and experience the core.
Orange signs in business windows indicate where customers can spend their Construction Dollars. The Downtown London Business Association and Old East Village BIA websites also show a full list of participating businesses.
Londoners are encouraged to follow the Old East Village BIA and Downtown London Business Association on social media for opportunities to win construction dollars.
Construction Dollars cannot be purchased and are distributed by the Downtown London Business Association, Old East Village BIA and their merchants.
