The Thames Valley Parkway (TVP) through Springbank Park will be temporarily closed this summer and fall as part of the next phase of work to decommission the Springbank Dam.
Beginning Monday, July 7 (weather permitting), the section of the TVP between the Springbank Park Pumphouse and the north-east corner of the parking lot will be fully closed to all users. The closure is expected to remain in place until December 11, 2025.
As part of this extended phase of work, some construction activities may take place during night hours, and nearby residents may notice increased noise at times. Weekend work is also anticipated on July 19 and 26, weather permitting.
Advanced signage and detour routes will be installed to guide pedestrians and cyclists safely around the area.
This closure is required to support the ongoing Springbank Dam Gate Removal project.
Construction began last year to decommission the dam. During the 2024 work, engineers discovered that the concrete deck of the dam structure was in worse condition than anticipated.
As a result, the concrete deck is being removed this summer as an extension of the construction project. Doing so now will result in significant cost savings and prevent the need for a separate project in the future.
We appreciate your patience as we carry out this important infrastructure work and encourage all TVP users to plan ahead and use alternate routes during the closure.
