Tree-mendous giveaway! Pick up your tree on Earth Day!

The City of London is celebrating Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22 and giving away more than 2,250 trees for Londoners to plant at home. This year is especially meaningful as London has been named the 2026 Forest Capital of Canada during its Bicentennial year.

Residents can stop by Carling Heights Optimist Community Centre, located at 656 Elizabeth Street, between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. to choose from 18 different types of native trees and four types of fruit trees, while supplies last.

“Earth Day is a great reminder of the important role trees play in keeping our city green and healthy,” says Mayor Josh Morgan. “As the 2026 Forest Capital of Canada, London is proud to celebrate our urban forest, and we encourage residents to be part of it. This tree giveaway gives Londoners the opportunity to plant a tree at home for future generations. Every tree planted is a step toward a greener, more sustainable London.” 

There is a limit of two trees per vehicle, on a first-come, first-serve basis. In addition, each car will receive one free bag of Green Bin compost with their tree(s), while supplies last.

Residents will be provided information about how to plant and care for their new tree(s). It is important to protect and maintain newly planted trees for the first year after they have been planted. Residents can also find helpful tips and resources at london.ca/trees.
