Temporary road closure on Highbury Avenue South and Highway 401

The overnight closure will help facilitate bridge work by the Province

Highbury Avenue South at Highway 401 will be closed starting on July 18, 2026, at 8:00 p.m., and will reopen on July 19, 2026, just before the lunch hour. Both the southbound and northbound lanes of Highbury Avenue South, as well as the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 401, will be closed overnight. This closure is required to facilitate demolition of the bridge as part of the Ministry of Transportation’s (MTO) underpass bridge replacement and interchange rehabilitation project.

Why is this project happening now?

This MTO project was planned and underway before construction began on Highbury Avenue South. While it is occurring at the same time as the City of London’s work on Highbury Avenue South, it is a separate initiative led by the Province and is not part of the City's project.

Drivers are advised to use the detour routes posted

The detour route for the HWY 401 closure will require drivers to exit the highway to get around the closure. Westbound drivers can exit on Highbury Avenue and travel along Wilton Grove Avenue to Veterans Memorial Parkway to gain access to Highway 401. Eastbound drivers can exit on Veterans Memorial Parkway and travel along Bradley Avenue to gain access to the Highbury Avenue South ramp. Drivers are advised to expect traffic delays if traveling in this area.

The detour route for the northbound and southbound traffic on Highbury Avenue South will require drivers to use Pond Mills Road via Bradley Avenue and Wilton Grove Road.
