Sunshine ahead: London’s spring cleanup is on the way

We know this winter felt long. After all of the snow, cold days and being stuck indoors for months, many Londoners are ready to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and see the city looking fresh again.

That’s why spring cleanup is underway.

Pothole repairs and street sweeping

Our crews have already been out fixing potholes across the city. They’ve been ramping up efforts for the last two weeks and are taking advantage of the milder temperatures. You can report potholes to service.london.ca and help us pinpoint problem areas.

Core area sweeping has already started, and street sweepers will begin heading out across the city later this week, weather permitting. Our full fleet will be back on the roads daily starting April 13.

Following a snowy winter, some sod damage from sidewalk plowing may be noticeable. Residents can help by gently repositioning larger pieces where possible and the City will continue repairs and re-seeding efforts throughout the spring. 

Getting parks ready for activities and recreation

Over the coming weeks, we are getting parks ready to welcome Londoners back for outdoor activities again. Crews are also out addressing any fallen or damaged tree branches in parks from the winter.

Public tennis nets should be installed by mid-April (weather permitting).

Premier soccer fields are expected to open the week of May 5 (weather permitting).

All outdoor sports fields will be open by May 12.

Park washrooms and field houses will be opened in phases with all open by the May long weekend.

Crews have been out addressing fallen or damaged tree branches in parks from the winter, but residents may continue to see some downed branches in less accessible locations over the coming weeks while this work continues. 

Clean ups and litter

London had a lot of snow this winter, and litter has been hiding underneath it all. Now with the snow melting, we know parks and roads need some extra care and attention in early spring. City crews are ready to tackle it.

Early cleanups will focus on roads where crews can safely access roadside areas. Some busier roads, especially higher-speed roads, may require temporary lane closures so crews can safely clean up litter. You will see signage and more details about these cleanups in the coming weeks.

Weather also plays a role. Crews need dry conditions so trucks can safely reach ditches, which are often too wet early in the season.

Cleanup efforts in parks begins in late April, with seasonal park preparations continuing into May. 

Additional garbage cans will start returning to parks in mid-April, with all seasonal containers in place by May.

Keeping London clean and green is something we all share. Thank you to everyone who helps by properly disposing of waste, taking garbage home when bins are not available and reporting litter or illegal dumping through the Service London portal at service.london.ca.

If you would like to help with the spring refresh, there are lots of opportunities to get involved. This year, the annual London Clean & Green will run from April 7 to April 18, 2026. The campaign supports and promotes community-led clean-ups across the city, creating opportunities for teams, employees, and community members to contribute to a cleaner, more vibrant London.
