It’s that time of year again – spring cleanup! The annual spring litter cleanup typically begins in mid-April and City of London crews are gearing up to have our City parks and the areas along roadways looking fresh.
A snowy winter has meant more litter has accumulated than in recent years. Garbage hidden by snow is challenging to identify, report, access and address by residents, businesses and City staff. That’s why we’re ramping up our efforts.
Core area sweeping is currently underway and the City will have street sweepers out later this week, weather and conditions permitting, with our full complement back on roads sweeping daily starting April 7.
Early litter clean ups will focus on roads that have immediate roadside access for crews.
Road users can expect further details and signage about cleanups along busier roadsides in the coming months. Roads with higher speed limits, like Highbury Avenue, require temporary closures for crews to safely clean up litter.
Weather is also a factor for scheduling cleanups. Crews require dry conditions to allow trucks to reach centre ditches, which can be inaccessible when these grassy areas are wet this time of year.

Litter clean ups will take place in parks starting in mid-April and seasonal preparations for our parks will continue into May.
The additional seasonal garbage cans will be heading back to City parks in mid-April, with all the extra containers placed by May.
All outdoor sports fields will be open by May 12, with our premier fields opening the week of May 5, weather permitting. Installing public tennis nets is also expected to be complete by the beginning of May.
All public washrooms in parks will be open by the May long weekend.
The City reminds Londoners it is everyone’s responsibility to keep our community clean and green. Thank you for doing your part to curb littering and to take home waste where public receptacles are not available. Please report illegal dumping and other litter issues on our Service London portal at service.london.ca.
Additionally, there are plenty of ways Londoners and community groups can participate in cleanup efforts, including London Clean & Green’s 12 days of cleaning this April, the 20-minute London Makeover on Friday, April 11, and the annual Community-wide Clean-up day on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
