Intersection of Second Street & Oxford Street Closed Starting September 22 for East London Link Phase 4

Starting Monday, September 22, the intersection of Second Street and Oxford Street will be closed to through traffic until Friday, October 3 (weather permitting) to allow crews to safely complete underground work.

Drivers should follow posted signage and take detour routes. Local traffic and pedestrian access will still be maintained for impacted businesses.

Traffic will be rerouted:

  • Oxford Street detour: Highbury Avenue to Huron Street to Clarke Road
  • Second Street detour: Cheapside Street to Third Street to Dundas Street

During this time, people driving through the area are advised to travel with caution in the construction zone and when visiting local destinations or businesses. 

With increased construction activity, check your route, allow extra time, and plan ahead using a navigation app such as Waze or Google Maps.

LTC Service Changes

The LTC bus entrance and exit on Oxford Street will be blocked during this period. Some transit routes will be impacted by the construction.

Fanshawe College Strike

The ongoing Fanshawe College strike has resulted in picket lines at both the Cheapside and Fanshawe College Boulevard entrances. This may cause additional delays for drivers and pedestrians near the campus. For up-to-date information, please visit the Fanshawe website.

About the East London Link

The East London Link is a multi-year infrastructure project that will revitalize more than 6 km of road between Downtown and Fanshawe College. The project includes transportation and transit improvements above ground, along with the repair and replacement of aging sewers, watermains, and other underground infrastructure.

The remaining phases of construction will take place between 2025 and 2026, with Phase 4 continuing in 2025 and Phase 5 scheduled for 2026.

This project is funded in part by the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada.
