This afternoon, London City Council recognized Cindy Sun, Anlun Guo, Caitlyn Pringle, Mia Scherba and Nadeen Shilbayeh as the 2021 recipients of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship.
This $2,000 scholarship, awarded annually, recognizes two high school students with the highest scholastic achievement based on the average of the student’s best six subjects in their graduating year. This year, four students shared identical top marks, resulting in five high school students being recognized for their exceptional academic achievements.
Graduating with an average of 99.67%:
Cindy Sun graduated from London Central Secondary School and recently started her first year studying Health Sciences at McMaster University. Cindy enjoys playing and teaching piano, reading and writing, and her favourite school subjects are math and chemistry. She has already been recognized as a recipient of the Governor General’s Academic Medal, the Mary Lewis Wyatt Award – Highest Standing, and the Barry Palmer Mathematics Award. Cindy’s future career goals include becoming a family physician or a medical researcher.
Graduating with an average of 99.50%:
Anlun Guo graduated from London Central Secondary and is attending the University of Toronto’s Life Sciences Program this fall. Anlun enjoys playing piano, drawing and competitive swimming, and previously received the University of Toronto Scholars Award for academic achievement. Her dream job is to become a researcher in the field of medical science.
Caitlyn Pringle graduated from H.B. Beal Secondary School. She is attending university to pursue her career goal of becoming a secondary school teacher. Her favourite school subjects are English, math, drama and dance, and one of her biggest passions is musical theatre. She enjoyed being a part of the High School Project at the Grand Theatre for the past two years and credits theatre with helping her grow and mature. She is especially thankful to the teachers who inspired her and hopes to follow in their footsteps as a role model to her own students in the future.
Mia Scherba graduated from H.B. Beal Secondary School. She is attending Western University for Business Management and Organization Studies this fall and has achieved advanced entry to Ivey Business School for 2023. Her favourite subjects are math and English, and she has been a member of the Original Kids Theatre Company for the past nine years. Mia has already been recognized as a recipient of the Western Scholarship of Excellence. Her dream job is to work in marketing for a fashion company.
Nadeen Shilbayeh graduated from Oakridge Secondary School. She is attending Western University for engineering this fall and her favourite subjects are chemistry and physics. Nadeen enjoys travelling and experiencing different cultures. She has previously received other academic awards for top marks in physics, chemistry, and biology, and her dream job for the future is to become a software engineer.

Sponsored by the Corporation of the City of London, the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship was established in 1981 to recognize academic excellence among graduating London high school students pursuing post-secondary education.
