London surpasses Housing Accelerator Fund target ahead of federal deadline

The City of London is pleased to announce that it has surpassed its three-year Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) target of 11,803 new housing units, reaching 11,966 new units four weeks ahead of the September 7, 2026 federal deadline.

The milestone reflects continued housing growth across London and the collective efforts of City Council and staff, builders, developers, non-profit housing providers and other partners to increase housing supply across the city.

“Surpassing our Housing Accelerator Fund target is a significant achievement for London, and it demonstrates what is possible when we set ambitious goals and have the leadership to deliver on them,” says Mayor Josh Morgan. “This progress didn’t happen by accident. It is the result of deliberate choices, a focused approach to getting housing built, and policies that have removed barriers and accelerated approvals. The federal investment through HAF has been an important partner, but it is the decisions we have made here in London that are turning that investment into real homes and real results. As we look ahead, Londoners should know that the work is not finished, and that staying focused on building more housing, creating affordability and keeping our city moving forward will require steady leadership and a willingness to keep delivering.”

The Housing Accelerator Fund is a federal program delivered through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) that provides funding to municipalities to accelerate housing construction and support lasting changes that increase housing supply.

“This milestone represents an extraordinary amount of work by people across the Corporation and throughout London’s building and development industry,” says Scott Mathers, Deputy City Manager, Housing and Community Growth. “HAF provided London with an important federal investment that allowed us to move more quickly and try new approaches to supporting housing development. Our staff embraced that challenge, and our builders and developers continued to bring projects forward and turn approvals into new homes. Everyone involved should be proud of what we have accomplished together.”

London has also completed all 11 initiatives included in its HAF action Plan. Together, the initiatives have helped increase housing supply by:

• enabling higher-density housing near rapid transit routes
• supporting office-to-residential conversions that have created new homes downtown
• providing incentives for Transit-Oriented Development and Additional Residential Units
• expanding financial incentives for homeowners and builders to create new housing
• improving development approval processes and reducing barriers to housing construction
• investing in infrastructure needed to support housing growth in key areas of the city
• supporting new affordable and highly supportive housing through partnerships with housing providers

While London has now surpassed its housing supply growth target, approval of the fourth and final Housing Accelerator Fund payment remains subject to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s review of London’s third-year HAF report. That review will include confirmation that the requirements of the funding agreement have been met and an assessment of London’s performance against all targets under the agreement.

Reaching the HAF target is an important milestone in London’s broader efforts to respond to continued growth and housing needs. The City will continue working with the building and development industry, housing providers and other partners to increase housing supply and build on the momentum created through HAF.
