Grow, donate and volunteer for annual food drive and campaign

The City of London, in partnership with the London Food Back, has launched the 29^th London Cares Curb Hunger food drive. From May 28 to June 8, the food drive will collect donations and support from the community to help fight food insecurity in the community. 

“The annual London Cares Curb Hunger campaign has become a demonstration of our entire community’s incredible generosity and shared commitment to addressing food insecurity,” said Mayor Josh Morgan. “I encourage all Londoners, if able, to please consider donating to support our neighbours who need it most.”

For almost three decades now, the London Cares Curb Hunger campaign has worked to raise awareness about the need to help those less fortunate in London.

“The summer months are a traditionally slower period for food donations, but the need for donations does not slow down,” says Jay Stanford, Director, Climate Change, Environment and Waste Management, City of London. “We want Londoners to know that it is easy to participate – whether it is donating at the grocery store, donating produce from your garden or helping us spread the word, your support matters.”

“29 years this food drive has been running - that’s three-quarters of the time the London Food Bank has served this community, and it has become a staple for all that we endeavour to do in London,” says Glen Pearson, Co-Executive Director of London Food Bank. “It could be easy to get discouraged, considering how difficult times are, and especially now that we hare feeding 10% of London’s population.  But when you see the City of London’s ongoing commitment to this drive, and the dozens of partners that have assisted through the years, we are upbeat given the marvellous generosity of this community.  We encourage all Londoners to join in that compassion and take part in this great event."

Londoners can support the food drive in various ways: 

• Fresh and non-perishable food donations
• Financial donations made directly to the London Food Bank
• Plant a Row, Grow a Row: Sign up to Grow-a-Row for the Food Bank in their backyard or community gardens
• Adopt a Plot: Sign up to adopt a garden bed at the London Food Bank to grow vegetables for client hampers
