The City of London has announced that Council has approved the appointment of Scott Mathers to the position of Deputy City Manager, Planning and Economic Development, effective immediately.
Mathers’ appointment comes following an extensive recruitment process that saw applications received from individuals in municipalities from across Canada.
Mathers brings a wealth of experience as he steps into the role of Deputy City Manager, Planning and Economic Development. He first joined the City of London in 2005 as an Environmental Services Engineer. He left to join another municipality in 2009 then returned to the City of London as a manager in the Development Services area in 2013. Mathers was appointed Manager, Development Finance in 2011, Division Manager, Stormwater Engineering in 2014, Division Manager, Water Engineering and was appointed Director, Water, Wastewater and Stormwater in 2017.
Throughout his career with the City, Mathers has earned a reputation for fairness, problem-solving and his ability to build consensus among disparate groups.
Mathers’ appointment is ahead of the current Deputy City Manager, Economic Planning and Development, George Kotsifas’ upcoming retirement, in early March. Kotsifas has been with the City of London since 2008 and has served in this role since May 2021.
