Tonight, London City Council will award Shelby Delagardeaux with the 2022 Tim Hickman Memorial Health and Safety Scholarship.
“Shelby’s commitment to health and safety and to the safety of others is very inspiring,” says Mayor Ed Holder. “As a future paramedic and her vision of making AED devices available in outdoor settings makes her an excellent recipient of this scholarship. A sincere thank you to the Hickman family for continuing not only Tim’s legacy but their commitment to creating a stronger and safer London.”
The annual scholarship, which is awarded to students in an occupational and/or public health and safety related program, was established in 2006 by the City of London and CUPE Locals 101 and 107, as a tribute to Tim Hickman who dies in service to our community at the age of 21.
“For our family, it’s important that we continue to help prevent future tragedy,” says Shirley Hickman, mother of Tim Hickman. “As a future paramedic, Shelby will have an opportunity to see firsthand where improvement could be made and risk of injury reduced.”
Shelby will receive $3,000 to help with her continued studies at Fanshawe College, as well as a one-year membership to the London chapter of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), which is pleased to support her future health and safety endeavours.
