Snow clearing updates

(Updated: Thursday January 29, 2026, at 06:57)

City salters continue to treat main routes and bus runs with some assistance overnight from our road plows.

Sidewalk units will be out today for additional sidewalk clearing.

*Cold temperatures can limit the effectiveness of road salt, please drive accordingly*

In response to the extreme cold weather and province-wide salt shortages, the City is plowing major roads more frequently to reduce the need for salt.

We are also using more sand in combination with salt to reduce our salt use.

We will get to residential streets as soon as we can, but we may need some extra time while we clear major roads first.

Snow clearing on sidewalks and at bus stops is not affected by the salt supply and is continuing as normal. The City uses sand already on residential sidewalks.

London is also experiencing extreme cold. At these temperatures, traditional road salt and liquid anti-icing products become significantly less effective. As a result, maintaining bare pavement conditions on major roads is not always possible during this weather. Crews are instead prioritizing plowing and sanding to improve traction.

Please drive safe

  • If you have to travel, please be patient, stay alert, and take extra caution on the road. These conditions require everyone to work together.
  • Road conditions will be more challenging, so give yourself extra time to travel.
  • Plowing and sanding will continue to improve traction, but roads may still be slippery. Slow down, make gentle turns, and avoid sudden braking. Be mindful of others.
