City of London extends a warm welcome to post-secondary students

Welcome to London. We are glad you're here.

The City of London is excited to welcome new and returning post-secondary students to London for the 2022/23 school year. Whether you are returning to London, or it is your first time in the Forest City, moving to a new city can be exciting. To ensure you get the most out of your time here, we gathered some information to help you navigate City services and get around safety.

Stay connected

Be sure to visit london.ca. It is your primary source of information on waste collection, parking, noise and other by-laws, as well information on the city’s new protected bike lanes and road construction updates.

Waste collection

If you are not sure when garbage is being collected in your neighbourhood, you can use Zone Finder tool to find your collection zone and schedule.

London has six collection zones with a separate schedule for the downtown and core area. Making sure you properly set out your garbage on collection day will help collectors pick it up fast and efficiently.

By-law information

The City’s by-laws will help you enjoy your new neighbourhood, ensure your new home is safe, and you are protected as a tenant.

You can learn more about the by-laws on London.ca, including:

If you have questions about a particular by-law or if you would like to register a complaint, connect with our Enforcement team at 519-661-4660 or at enforcement@london.ca.

Getting around the city

Some road restrictions continue to be in place for London’s busiest construction season – from active transportation improvements to underground work and new bus lanes – construction is underway across the city.

Be sure to plan your route ahead and visit the Renew London website to see if your commute will be impacted. Navigational tools or apps such as Google Maps or Waze are another great way to stay up to date on what areas are impacted.

The best routes to reach core area destinations include Richmond Street, Talbot Street, Wharncliffe Road, Colborne Street, York Street, Dufferin Avenue, Oxford Street, and Riverside Drive.

Some LTC routes and stops have been impacted during construction. Transit riders are advised to visit the LTC website for real-time updates and detour information.

Detours continue to be in place at the Thames Valley Parkway between Huron Street and Gibbons Park, and from Ann Street to Grosvenor Street during nearby sewer construction.

Whether you bike, skateboard, or roller blade, enjoy the many benefits that come from being active in your travels around London, and do your part to reduce carbon emissions.

Choosing to ride or roll to your destination is now more comfortable than ever before.

The new protected bike lanes on Dundas and Colborne Streets connect to the Thames Valley Parkway, Downtown and Old East Village, offering peace of mind while you ride knowing there is a physical barrier between you and passing vehicles.
