The Middlesex London Health Unit introduced new regulations last week that require proof of vaccination before entering sport and recreation facilities. In keeping with these new regulations, the City of London will be updating its proof of vaccination requirements for the City’s indoor recreation programs, services and facilities.
As of October 31, proof of vaccination will begin to be required for anyone age 12 or older entering the City’s sports or recreation facilities to participate in, coach, officiate, or watch organized sport.
Fully vaccinated visitors will need their current vaccination receipt alongside a valid piece of identification to access these City programs and facilities.
Visitors are reminded that they can print or download their vaccination receipt which includes all the relevant information they need to prove that they are fully vaccinated. The receipts can be printed or downloaded from the Provincial government website. Those who need support obtaining a copy of their vaccination receipt, including those who do not have access to a computer, internet or printer, can call the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1-833-943-3900 for support.
In line with current Provincial regulations, the following individuals are exempt from showing proof of vaccination at City community centres, arenas and indoor aquatics facilities:
- Children under 12 years of age
- Patrons entering an indoor area solely for the following purposes:
- to use a washroom;
- to access an outdoor area that can only be accessed through an indoor route;
- to make a retail purchase;
- while placing or picking up an order;
- while paying for an order;
- to purchase admission; or
- as may be necessary for the purposes of health and safety.
- Patrons who provide written document completed and supplied by a physician or registered nurse stating that the individual is exempt for a medical reason from being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and the effective time-period for the medical reason.

On Friday, October 8, the Province of Ontario announced it would be raising capacity limits in select settings, including spectator areas of the City’s recreation and sport facilities.
The Government of Ontario is also in the process of developing an enhanced vaccine certificate with a unique QR code to make it safer, more secure and convenient to show proof of vaccination, when required to do so. The enhanced vaccine certificate and verification app will be available by October 22.
All Middlesex-London Health Unit guidelines and Provincial regulations, including mask requirements, adhering to capacity limits and physical distancing, apply at all times when accessing City programs, services and facilities.
