Temporary intersection closure: Southdale Road West and Colonel Talbot Road

A five-day closure is planned for the intersection of Southdale Road West and Colonel Talbot Road to complete work in the south half of the intersection as part of the Southdale and Colonel Talbot Roundabout project. The intersection will be closed starting the morning of Saturday, September 30, and reopen on Thursday, October 5, weather permitting.

A designated detour route will be in place to help drivers navigate around the area. Pedestrian access will be maintained along the north side of the intersection during the closure. Businesses in the area will remain open and accessible.

When the intersection reopens to traffic on October 5, it will be configured and signed as a temporary one-lane roundabout while work on the remainder of the roundabout is completed. Access to Colonel Talbot Road north of the intersection will continue to be restricted until late fall.

Two of the four pedestrian crossings will be installed and active when the intersection reopens, and people walking will be directed to these new crossings while the remaining crossings are built.

A transit detour will be in place during the closure, impacting Route 24. About the Southdale and Colonel Talbot Roundabout

The City of London is reconfiguring the intersection as a roundabout, adding active transportation improvements, and making upgrades to underground infrastructure. The roundabout has been designed to improve comfort and safety for all road users and help accommodate current and future travel demand in one of the fastest growing parts of the city. Construction is expected to wrap up in late fall of 2023, with some minor finishing work in spring of 2024.
