Public engagement launches for London’s Special Events Policy review

London is renowned for its vibrant cultural scene, lively festivals, and community celebrations. Each year, our city hosts over 160 special events organized by dedicated third-party operators.

These events are more than just gatherings, they are vital to our city’s cultural richness, economic vitality, and social cohesion. From multi-day music festivals and cultural celebrations to fundraising walks and large neighbourhood gatherings, these events help define what makes London such a dynamic place to live and visit.

To keep our city’s special events thriving and ensure they contribute positively to our community, we are reviewing the Special Events Policy that governs events in publicly owned outdoor spaces.

What’s happening?

In 2024, we began a comprehensive review of our Special Events Policy. This review aims to:

  • Simplify and clarify: Make the policy easier to understand and navigate.
  • Streamline content: Ensure consistency and reduce unnecessary complexity.
  • Reduce barriers: Make it easier for event organizers to plan and execute their events.
  • Modernize practices: Align the policy with current regulations and best practices.
  • Proactively prevent problems: Address potential issues before they arise.
  • Enhance customer service: Improve support for those hosting and attending events.

Community feedback is crucial in shaping a policy that supports the success and safety of our special events while aligning with the City’s Strategic Plan.

Feedback can be shared through our Get Involved webpage: getinvolved.london.ca/SpecialEventsPolicy.
