Periodic lane restrictions: Wellington Street between Grey Street and Queens Avenue

Starting on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, periodic lane restrictions will begin on Wellington Street between Grey Street and Queens Avenue while crews install temporary traffic signals and streetlighting in preparation for construction of Phase 3 of the Downtown Loop and Phase 1 of the Wellington Gateway projects.

Drivers travelling northbound and southbound on Wellington Street are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible, and to plan ahead by using navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps. Signs will be installed to help guide traffic through the area.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout this work, with sporadic sidewalk restrictions.

Transit riders are advised to visit the LTC website for service updates.

Businesses remain open and accessible during this work.

About the Downtown Loop Phase 3 Wellington Gateway Phase 1

Construction for the Downtown Loop Phase 3 (Wellington Street from Queens Avenue to York Street) and Wellington Gateway Phase 1 (Wellington Street between York Street and just north of the Thames River) is anticipated to begin in March 2023. The Downtown Loop is the first of London’s rapid new transit system and Phase 3 is the final phase of construction for this project.

The Wellington Gateway project is the third rapid transit corridor to be constructed in London with the goal of increasing the frequency and reliability of transit, while improving traffic capacity and adding new streetscape and transportation elements above ground, and repairing and replacing aging sewers, watermains and other underground infrastructure. The project is expected to be constructed in four phases, between 2023 and 2027.
