Starting on Saturday, December 7, leaf collection will resume in “Zone E” of the city, which includes Old South, White Oaks, and Pond Mills. This is the third of four fall leaf pickups planned for this zone.
Urgent help is needed from Londoners to dig out their bagged leaves if they are currently buried in the snow, so collectors can pick up whole leaf bags. “We know that we are asking a lot of Londoners to help us with this extra activity, but we have no other way of picking up bagged leaves that are buried in snow”, notes Jay Stanford, Director, Climate Change, Environment and Waste Management. “A variety of weather factors, from a warm and late fall, to late fall snowstorms, have contributed to this challenge.”
After Zone E collection is complete, crews will move to Zone A, and the city’s remaining four zones, starting on December 10. It will likely take until December 21 to complete the final leaf pickups, one to three weeks behind the original completion date, depending on which zone you live in.
For residents who are able to drop off leaves at the Oxford EnviroDepot (1460 Oxford Street West) or Clark Road South EnviroDepot (28 Clark Road), the EnviroDepots will open on an extra day on Sunday, December 8, from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., in addition to the scheduled opening on Saturday, December 7, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
EnviroDepots are now open only on Saturdays and Wednesdays, as they returned to winter hours on December 2.
It is estimated that 75% of leaves normally collected at the curb have been picked up already.
