City Council recognizes 2022 Queen Elizabeth Scholarship winners

This afternoon, London City Council recognized Richard Ding, Paige Evoy-Smith, Ballerina Liang, Nicolas Seglenieks and John Matti as the 2022 recipients of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship.

This $2,000 scholarship, awarded annually, recognizes high school students with the highest scholastic achievement based on the average of the student’s best six subjects in their graduating year. 

Richard Ding, London Central Secondary School graduating with an average of 99.17%:

Richard Ding graduated from London Central Secondary School and will be attending the mechatronics engineering program at the University of Waterloo this fall. He developed an immense passion for computing and mechatronic designs after constructing his first autonomous robot. Richard wishes to utilise the power of Artificial Intelligence and mechanical design to construct fully autonomous systems that can take over dangerous and heavy jobs.

Paige Evoy-Smith, A.B. Lucas Secondary School graduating with an average of 99.00%:

Paige Evoy-Smith graduated from A. B. Lucas Secondary School. She will be attending Western University to pursue her career as a lawyer. Her favorite subjects include politics and law. Paige has also received a scholarship of excellence from Western and a Foresters Competitive Scholarship.

Ballerina Liang, London Central Secondary School graduating with an average of 99.00%:

Ballerina Liang graduated from London Central Secondary School. She will be attending the University of Waterloo in the fall. Her favorite subjects are math and music, and she would like to work in the tech industry following her studies. She also received the Alfred Raymond Trust Award for highest Academic standing for grade 11.

Nicolas Seglenieks, Saunders Secondary School graduating with an average of 99.00%:

Nicolas Seglenieks graduated from Saunders Secondary School and will be attending McGill University this fall. An aspiring software engineer, his favorite subjects include computer science, math, and natural sciences (physics, chemistry, and astronomy).

John Matti, Regina Mundi Catholic College graduating with an average of 99.00%:

John Matti has graduated from Regina Mundi Catholic College. He will be attending University of Waterloo this fall. His most loved subjects are math and physics at school. His dream is to be a programmer following his studies.

Sponsored by the City of London, the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship was established in 1981 to recognize academic excellence among graduating London high school students pursuing post-secondary education.
