Getting around Byron by bike just got easier. Boler Road is now open following the completion of the final phase of the Boler Road Cycling and Watermain Improvements project.
A new two-way cycling path along the east side of Boler Road, between Commissioners Road and Southdale Road, gives people another way to travel through the neighbourhood and connect to surrounding areas, including Springbank Park and Lambeth.
The project also added pedestrian crossings, improved sections of sidewalks, upgraded transit stops and a resurfaced road, benefitting people travelling in different ways.
Beneath the road, crews replaced the aging watermain and upgraded water services to nearby properties. Built in 1963, the watermain was in poor condition, undersized for the area's needs and had experienced 14 watermain breaks. Replacing it will help reduce the risk of future breaks and service disruptions.
“By coordinating this work, we were able to make several improvements along Boler Road at the same time, from adding cycling and pedestrian connections to replacing the watermain. This means we can address multiple needs in one project, reducing the chance of returning to dig up the road again for separate work and helping limit future disruptions for the neighbourhood,” said Jennie Dann, Director of Construction and Infrastructure Services.
The work was completed in three phases along Boler Road, between Commissioners Road West and Southdale Road. The final section, between Byron Baseline Road and Commissioners Road West, is now open to traffic.
Crews will return in spring 2027 to complete some remaining work. No traffic disruptions are expected.
