10th Annual Age Friendly London Conference Celebrates International Day of Older Persons

In celebration of International Day of Older Persons, the 10th annual Age Friendly London Conference returns on October 2, presented by the Age Friendly London Network.

The conference will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the London Hellenic Centre (133 Southdale Road West).

The conference will bring together over 200 attendees, including older adults, caregivers, and community members, to explore and discuss ways to foster a more inclusive city for older adults. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with 30 vendors and exhibitors showcasing a wide variety of services and resources designed specifically for older adults.

This year’s theme, "Aging Awesome: Uniting Age-Friendly Stories of Wisdom and Wonder", promises a day filled with enjoyment and engagement. Attendees will participate in interactive activities and hear from motivational speakers. Highlighting the event is keynote speaker Layne the Auctionista, who will challenge age-related stereotypes and inspire participants to embrace new adventures.

The program also features presentations from musician and author Jim Chapman, therapeutic recreation specialist Lisa Joworski, and Ted Hudson, Director of Digital Marketing at Schlegel Villages. Attendees will receive updates on the latest initiatives from the Age Friendly London Network. Additionally, guests can look forward to performances by the Jazzabelles, an all-women swing and jazz band, and salsa lessons led by Anna Marie and Fernando Benevides from the Latin Passion Dance Academy.

“London is proud to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons with this remarkable conference,” says Mayor Josh Morgan. “This event shows that we’re dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive community for older adults, where everyone’s ideas and experiences are valued.”

Advance registration was required to attend the event in person. However, a virtual live stream will be available free of charge. To access the livestream, please email agefriendylondon@london.ca or call 519-661-2489 ext. 8765.
