Who we are

The London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership is a collaborative community initiative, funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) since 2009. It is supported by the Government of Ontario and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. It is co-led by the City of London and a community member.

The LMLIP as it is formed today was born out of the work of the Welcoming Cultural Diversity committee which was established in 2004 by the City of London and United Way of London Middlesex.

LMLIP prioritizes five key elements of integration to create a stronger and healthier region:

  • striving to create a more welcoming community;
  • improving communication and access to information;
  • coordination and collaboration between the support networks that exist and the people who need them;
  • providing supports and services for immigrants; and
  • reducing systemic barriers in our community.

What we do

At its core, the LMLIP is designed to facilitate the integration of newcomers in the region. LMLIP does this by raising awareness of available services, engagement opportunities and job postings. LMLIP works with the community to identify issues that impede integration and address them with the support of service providers across sectors, community partners and the three levels of government.

How we do it

The LMLIP uses a collaborative framework to facilitate the successful integration of immigrants;

  • The LMLIP is co-led by the City of London and a community member
  • Guided by a Central Council and five issue-specific sub-councils focusing on barriers to integration in housing; health and wellbeing; education; employment; and inclusion and civic engagement
  • The LMLIP is supported by post-graduate institutions, community services across sectors and volunteers.
  • All LMLIP members represent the area of focus, not their respective organization.
