Homeless Prevention Team to Host Community Meeting

The City of London’s Homeless Prevention Team is inviting residents and community organizations to join a community conversation and idea sharing meeting to help develop shared solutions towards ending homelessness and housing instability in London.

“Homelessness and housing is a complex community issue that requires a community response,” says Craig Cooper, Manager, Homeless Prevention & Housing for the City of London. “This community meeting is an opportunity for our team to engage with residents and organizations to talk about their ideas and how the services they may already be providing can support more individuals in our community.”

The Homeless Prevention Team is hoping to connect with residents and community organizations about important gaps in the system and existing supports that could possibly help fill these gaps. One of these gaps is around food security among individuals living unsheltered or facing homelessness. “Food security is a real concern but we know a lot of faith-based organizations are already doing an excellent service to the community by providing meals. We’re hoping this meeting will present an opportunity to work collaboratively with groups to expand their reach in our community,” says Cooper.

The team will also use the meeting as an opportunity to provide insight into the homeless prevention and housing model the City is working towards and share updates on new and ongoing initiatives like the Housing Stability Week, Coordinated Informed Response and the Coordinated Access Centre.

These meetings are just one more piece of the puzzle in supporting London’s vulnerable population. The City of London is committed to taking action to address issues of homelessness including housing and support programs. We are working with individuals with lived and living experience to identify challenges and provide input on effective actions and solutions to help improve housing stability for all Londoners.
