Periodic lane restrictions: Thames River Bridge at Wharncliffe Road North and South

Starting  Friday, September 15 , periodic lane restrictions will be in place at Thames River Bridge at Wharncliffe Road North and South to allow for necessary advance work in preparation for the Wharncliffe Road South Improvements project. These periodic road restrictions are anticipated to be in place until approximately Saturday, September 16, weather permitting.

During this time, signs will be installed to help guide traffic through the area. Drivers are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use navigational apps such as Waze and Google Maps to find alternative routes to reach their destinations.

Some short-term restrictions will be required at the Thames Valley Parkway (TVP).  People biking and walking will be redirected safely to the TVP while this work is underway.

Temporary sidewalk closures and restrictions will also be required and pedestrians are encouraged to use the sidewalk on the other side of the road to avoid these restrictions.

Some LTC routes may be impacted by these restrictions and transit riders are advised to visit the LTC website for service updates and the most up-to-date information.

About the Wharncliffe Road South Improvements project

The City of London is planning to reconstruct Wharncliffe Road South, from north of the Thames River to Springbank Drive to provide safer, more efficient travel for all road users.

The project will replace the aging CN Bridge, improve the Wharncliffe Road South and Horton Street intersection, and rehabilitate the Wharncliffe Road Bridge across the Thames River.

The new street design will enhance the pedestrian environment, improve safety, reduce traffic back-ups, and improve access to transit.
