COVID-19 Enhanced Provincial restrictions – Impacts to City of London recreation amenities

As a result of Province-wide measures, effective Saturday, April 17, all outdoor recreation facilities are now closed, including:

  • Playgrounds
  • Soccer pitches
  • Baseball diamonds
  • Tennis courts and pickleball courts
  • Basketball courts
  • Skate parks
  • Picnic areas, park shelters and outdoor exercise equipment

Parks, green space, trails and pathways remain open for walking and biking through only. Off-leash dog parks and park benches remain open as well. These spaces are not for gathering. Residents using an open green space are required to attend them only with members of the same household, a member of one other household who lives alone or a caregiver for any member of either household. Residents are also required to maintain physical distance of no less than 2 metres with others who may be using the spaces.

City of London has also closed the courses at Thames Valley Golf Course and Fanshawe Golf Course, effective as of this morning.

City of London services continue to be available during the Stay-at-Home Order. Changes have been made to reduce the need for people to leave their homes to access these services. Appointments will continue to be offered virtually or over the phone where services can be delivered remotely. In-person services will be offered only where they are legislatively required or in extenuating circumstances.

Broader impacts of the enhanced Provincial measures include limiting outside gatherings to members of your immediate household only. Those who live alone can have exclusive, close contact with another household. Capacity at weddings, funerals, and religious services is reduced to 10 people indoors while capacity at essential retail is further reduced to 25%. Non-essential construction will be restricted and limited access to Ontario from Manitoba and Quebec.

In addition to these enhanced measures, Londoners should continue to stay at home as much as possible, limit close contacts to your household and follow all public health measures to minimize transmission of COVID-19. Residents are also reminded that face coverings are mandatory in indoor areas of businesses and organizations that are open, with limited exceptions. Face coverings are also recommended outdoors in areas where physical distance can’t be maintained.
