City accepting submissions for the annual Tim Hickman Memorial Health and Safety Scholarship

The City is excited to announce that application submissions are now open for the 2022 Tim Hickman Memorial Health and Safety Scholarship.

Each year, this scholarship awards $3000 to students currently enrolled full-time in an occupational or public health and safety related program at a Southwest or Central-West Ontario college or university. This may include occupational safety/health/hygiene, occupational or physical therapy, nursing, medicine, emergency services or other related fields.

The scholarship is awarded in memory of Tim Hickman, a part-time City of London arena employee who lost his life on the job on March 23, 1996, at the age of 21. The scholarship represents the importance of raising awareness of occupational health and safety. The scholarship is sponsored by the City of London along with CUPE Locals 107 and 101, with the support of Tim’s family and friends.

“This scholarship is a perfect opportunity to showcase and recognize individuals who are working to improve our workspaces and ensure tragedies like Tim’s never happen again,” says Gary Bridge, Manager, People Services for the City of London. “If you are a student or know of a student who is promoting occupational or public health and safety through an impactful initiative or idea, we’d encourage you to learn more about this scholarship opportunity.”

Applications for the scholarship are due March 15, 2022. For details on how to apply, to view past recipients or learn more about Tim’s story, visit the Tim Hickman Memorial Health and Safety Scholarship webpage.
