Scholarship Funding Available for Health and Safety Students

Each year a $3000 scholarship is available to students currently enrolled full time in an occupational and or public health and safety related program at a Southwest or Central-West Ontario college or university. This may include occupational safety/health/hygiene, occupational or physical therapy, nursing, medicine, emergency services or other related fields.

The scholarship is in memory of Tim Hickman, a part-time City of London arena employee who lost his life on the job in 1996. The scholarship is sponsored by the City of London along with CUPE Locals 107 and 101, with the support of Tim’s family and friends. The scholarship represents the importance of raising awareness of occupational health and safety.

“We want to recognize future leaders in our community who are dedicated to health and safety, to ensure that tragedies like the one that took Tim’s life don’t ever happen again,” said Gary Bridge, Manager of Human Resources and Corporate Services.

“We have seen so many passionate and caring recipients and applicants in the past, and we know that there are many deserving students with great ideas that can improve our work spaces. We look forward to hearing their stories.”

Applications for the scholarship are due January 31, 2020. For details on how to apply, visit the Tim Hickman Memorial Health and Safety Scholarship page on London.ca.
