Update regarding the community memorial at the corner of Hyde Park and South Carriage Roads

Earlier today, representatives of the Afzaal family and the London Muslim Mosque joined City staff at the corner of Hyde Park and South Carriage Roads to begin the process of removing flowers and other items placed as part of a community memorial to the family that was killed there.

The toys, keepsakes and mementos will be kept and presented to the family. Flower and plant materials will be sorted and will be composted. It will be kept separately and also presented to the family for a future use. Of the remaining materials, as much as possible will be recycled.

If flowers and items continue to be placed at the site, they will be handled with the same level of care and respect when they are removed. The site will be monitored to ensure safety, and items will be removed regularly, as required.

Representatives of the Afzaal family continue to ask that their privacy be respected during this time.
