Upcoming traffic changes at Richmond Street between North Centre Road and Jacksway Crescent

Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 19, drivers travelling in both directions of Richmond Street between North Centre Road and Jacksway Crescent will be channelled through the east side of the road as work continues in this area for construction of the Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements project.

Currently, people travelling north and south on Richmond Street are using the west side lanes as crews complete work on the east side of the road. As the project progresses, construction operations will transition to the west side of Richmond Street, requiring to move traffic to the east side lanes. Drivers navigating through this area are advised to expect delays and give themselves a little extra time as everyone gets used to the new traffic conditions.

Restrictions along Richmond Street are anticipated to be in place until approximately December 2023.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible, and to plan ahead by using navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps. Signs will be installed to help guide traffic through the area.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout this work on at least one side of the road. People walking are advised to follow wayfinding signs to navigate the construction area safely.

People biking are encouraged to use alternative routes when possible and follow signs to reach their destination. Cyclists may be required to dismount and walk.

Transit operations are anticipated to resume at the Masonville Mall LTC terminal, starting Tuesday, September 19 to serve routes 10, 13, 16, 25, 34, 90, 92 and 93. Transit riders are advised to visit the LTC website for service updates and the most up-to-date information.

All businesses remain open and accessible during construction. Access to Masonville Mall and other commercial and residential areas will be maintained at all times throughout this work.

About the Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements Project

Construction for the Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements project aims to enhance safety and comfort for all road users and help accommodate existing and future traffic demand, while upgrading and replacing aging underground infrastructure. The project will also add active transportation improvements, including asphalt in-boulevard bike paths and new concrete sidewalks.

The project will be constructed in stages to minimize inconveniences and maximize access through the area during construction. Construction is planned in 2023 for the first phase of the project and in 2024 for phase two along Fanshawe Park Road.

This project is one of London’s top ten projects to be constructed this year across the city.
