Temporary lane restrictions: Wellington Street, just north of the King Street intersection

Starting on Monday, February 13, 2023, temporary lane restrictions will be in place at Wellington Street, just north of the King Street intersection to allow for utility relocation in preparation for construction of the Downtown Loop Phase 3 and Wellington Gateway Phase 1 projects, which are anticipated to be in place until approximately Friday, March 31, 2023.

Drivers travelling northbound on Wellington Street are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible, and to plan ahead by using navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps. Signs will be installed to help guide traffic through the area.

Sidewalk restrictions will be in place throughout this work and pedestrians will be redirected through a temporary walkway on the east side of Wellington Street.

London Transit bus stop #1939, which is located on Wellington Street just south of Dundas Street will be closed during this time. Transit riders taking routes # 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 19 and 106 are advised to catch the bus at Queens Avenue and Clarence Street, and to visit the LTC website for service updates.

Businesses remain open and accessible during this work.

About the Downtown Loop Phase 3 and Wellington Gateway Phase 1

Construction for the Downtown Loop Phase 3 and Wellington Gateway Phase 1 projects is anticipated to begin in March on Wellington Street between Queens Avenue and just north of the Thames River.

The Downtown Loop is the first of London’s new rapid transit system and Phase 3 is the final phase of construction for this project.

The Wellington Gateway project is the third rapid transit corridor to be constructed in London with the goal of increasing the frequency and reliability of transit, while improving traffic capacity and adding new streetscape and transportation elements above ground, and repairing and replacing aging sewers, watermains and other underground infrastructure. The project is expected to be constructed in four phases, between 2023 and 2027.
