Get Involved with the City’s 2023 Budget Update

A public participation meeting for delegations to the Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee (SPPC) on the City of London’s Draft 2023 Budget will be held in Council Chambers starting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 ahead of SPPC’s review of the budget on January 26, 2023.

Council received a presentation on the Draft 2023 Budget Update at its meeting on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.  Residents wishing to review this presentation, learn more about the City budget process, and find out how to provide feedback are encouraged to attend one of two drop-in Open Houses this Thursday, January 12 or join an online presentation of the same information on Saturday, January 14.

Council is expected to consider approving the City’s 2023 Budget at its meeting on February 14, 2023.

The Draft Property Tax Operating Budget includes approximately $1.1 billion in 2023 for programs and services, including Environmental Services; Housing, Social & Health Services; Protective Services; Parks, Recreation and Neighbourhood Services; and Transportation Services.

The Draft Property Tax Capital Budget includes approximately $447 million in 2023 for various infrastructure and capital projects - classified as Lifecycle Renewal Projects, Growth Projects and Service Improvement Projects.

The Draft 2023 Budget includes a proposed 2.9% increase in the property tax rate. The proposed increase would equate to an additional cost of $92 in 2023 for a residential property with an average assessed value of $241,000 (excluding the education tax portion and any impacts of tax policy).

If you wish to attend the public participation meeting in person to speak, you are encouraged to pre-register by email or phone; however, should you wish to attend virtually, pre-registration is required by contacting PPMClerks@london.ca or 519-661-2489 ext. 7100.  Written submissions to be included on the Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee Added Agenda should be submitted by no later than 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023, either delivered or mailed to the City Clerk’s Office, Room 308, 300 Dufferin Avenue, P.O. Box 5035, London, ON N6A 4L9.  Submissions may also be e-mailed to sppc@london.ca. The meeting will be livestreamed.

The draft 2023 update to the 2020-2023 Multi-Year Budget can be viewed at the City Clerk’s Office, 3rd Floor, City Hall, 300 Dufferin Avenue and on the City’s website and at getinvolved.london.ca/budget.
