24-hour-a-day construction work extended at Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street intersection

Starting Monday, October 9, 2023, 24-hour-a-day work will resume at the Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street intersection (weather permitting) to complete work on the new watermain on the west side of Richmond Street until approximately Friday, October 13. Construction activities will return to regular daytime operations following this work.

Overnight construction operations are necessary to complete this work more efficiently and to minimize traffic impacts during the day.

While this work is underway, lane restrictions may be required along Fanshawe Park Road between both east and west ends of North Centre Road and through the Richmond intersection. The road will remain open with one lane of traffic in each direction. Current traffic restrictions on Richmond Street between Jacksway Crescent and North Centre Road will continue until later in the fall.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and use navigation apps such as Waze and Google Maps to find alternative routes when possible.

Access will continue to be maintained to businesses and properties in the area throughout this work.

As a reminder, this continues to be an active construction site and regular construction noise should be expected in the area during the day and overnight.

Sidewalk access will continue to be maintained on at least one side of the road and pedestrians are encouraged to follow signs to navigate the construction zone safely to reach their destination.

Some bike lane closures and restrictions may be required while this work is underway. Cyclists may need to dismount and walk and are encouraged to use alternative routes when possible.

Transit riders are advised to visit the LTC website for service updates and detours and the most up-to-date information.

This is a big milestone for this stage of the project and once all underground work is complete crews will begin placing granular base for the new roadway in preparation to install new curbs and other aboveground elements.

About the Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements Project

Construction for the Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street Intersection Improvements project aims to enhance safety and comfort for all road users and help accommodate existing and future traffic demand, while upgrading and replacing aging underground infrastructure. The project will also add active transportation improvements, including asphalt in-boulevard bike paths and new concrete sidewalks.

The project will be constructed in stages to minimize inconveniences and maximize access through the area during construction. Construction is currently underway for the first phase of the project along Richmond Street and phase two is planned in 2024 on Fanshawe Park Road.

This project is one of London’s top ten projects to be constructed this year across the city.
