Notice of Public Information Centre No.2
Wastewater Treatment Operations Master Plan

The City of London operates five wastewater treatment plants and 36 pumping stations to collect and treat London’s wastewater. This study looks at the need for new and upgraded facilities as part of our commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring that our facilities can continue to serve London as it grows.

Study area:

This Master Plan needs to consider the entire city. We are seeking input from everyone who wants their voice heard.

Background:

The proper collection and treatment of wastewater has a direct impact of the health of residents, our environment, and the ability of the City to grow and prosper. Operating a wastewater treatment system often requires the upgrade of existing facilities and the construction of new infrastructure. By developing an informed, long-term plan, the City will ensure that the improvements we make today will effectively contribute to our long-term goals.

Public Information Centre – event details:

A second virtual Public Information Centre will be held on Wednesday, September 29 at 5:00 p.m. to present some of the key opportunities, challenges, constraints and strategies of this Wastewater Treatment Operations Master Plan. The link to register for the online event will be available at https://getinvolved.london.ca/wastewater-master-plan, along with a recorded presentation video following the event.

Notice of Public Information Centre (PIC) No.1:
Adelaide Wastewater Treatment Plant
Climate Change Resiliency Class Environmental Assessment
PIC Date:
Wednesday, October 6, 2021 – 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm (virtual)

The City of London (the City) is undertaking a Schedule B Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to identify the preferred solution for flood protection and climate change resiliency at the Adelaide Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Background:

In April 2019, the City declared a climate emergency to deepen its commitment to protecting its economy, ecosystems, and communities from climate change through adaptation and mitigation initiatives.

The City secured federal funding through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund for this project, as well as for climate change resiliency improvements at the Greenway Wastewater Treatment Plant.

This project seeks to identify a preferred flood protection approach to improve asset resilience, enhance treatment capabilities, and improve plant safety. Potential approaches include a flood barrier, an effluent pumping station, and other upgrades to protect these critical infrastructure assets and reduce the environmental impacts of flooding.

PIC Event Details:

To register for this virtual PIC, please visit the project’s Get Involved page at getinvolved.london.ca/adelaide-climate-change. The PIC will present some of the key opportunities, challenges, and constraints of the project. Additionally, the PIC will provide opportunity for the public and interested parties to offer input and identify any concerns or local information to support the Class EA process. Following the event, a recording of the PIC presentation will be made available on the Get Involved page.
