London City Council appoints new City Manager

London City Council announced today that Lynne Livingstone has been appointed City Manager, effective immediately. This appointment comes following an extensive search that began when former City Manager Martin Hayward announced his retirement late last year.

“Lynne is a dedicated and experienced civil servant who believes deeply in public service,” said Mayor Ed Holder. “Her commitment to this organization and to the community is clear in all she does. Along with all of Council, I look forward to working with Lynne and to the inspirational, collaborative and strategic leadership she will bring as she steps into this role.”

Livingstone began her career in public service 30 years ago, working first with the London Psychiatric Hospital and then holding progressively senior roles with the Province at the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and Ministry of Children and Youth Services. In 2007, she joined the City of London as the Director, Neighbourhood and Children’s Services, then became Managing Director, Neighbourhood, Children and Fire Services in 2012. Most recently, Livingstone was appointed Deputy City Manager, working in the City Manager’s office, leading teams focused on culture, service, performance and readiness.

Livingstone’s accomplishments throughout her career at the City include initiating the first London Strengthening Neighbourhoods Strategy, creating London’s Children and Youth Network, leading the development of Service London, facilitating numerous community initiatives, and leading the development and execution of the City’s previous and current Strategic Plan.

“I am honoured to accept this role and to be able to build on the strong foundation that has been set over the past few years,” said Livingstone. “I care deeply about this organization and about this city. I’m confident that working together with Council, with staff and with our community partners, we will continue to move the City forward as we strive to build a better London for all.”
