City of London to host 2nd annual London Newcomer Day

On Thursday, October 21, the City of London and many community partners will be welcoming London newcomers to the 2nd annual virtual London Newcomer Day.

“The diverse backgrounds and unique experiences of residents is what makes London such a vibrant and culturally-rich place to live,” says Mayor Ed Holder. “The City of London welcomes all newcomers, and I am excited for this event to bring together such an important collective of local partners, organizations, and communities to celebrate new Londoners.”

Newcomers are a vital part of London’s social, economic and cultural growth, and the City is committed to making London a welcoming place for everyone. This event, held in partnership with the London Public Library, is an opportunity for neighbours to meet, information to be shared and experiences to be had by all Londoners. It’s also a chance to showcase why London is a great place to call home.

“London’s Newcomer Day is an event for all Londoners,” says Jill Tansley, Manager of Strategic Programs and Partnerships who leads the City’s efforts to support and attract newcomers and immigrants.  “This year’s virtual event will be an opportunity for newcomers to learn about living, working and studying in London through various breakout sessions, panel Q&As and newcomer testimonials. It’s also an opportunity for those who have lived here all their life to learn more about how to continue making London a welcoming city for all.”

This year’s free event, which begins at 6:00 p.m., will be hosted online and feature several engaging sessions and presentations for newcomers and their families. Local resources and supports will be highlighted in each of the presentations to help make London feel like home.

The London Newcomer Day could not be possible without the help and support of many community partners who dedicate their time and resources to help newcomers settle into London. London Newcomer Day’s community partners help with settlement services, employment support and educational resources.
