City of London hosts third annual London Newcomer Day

Each year, the City of London welcomes thousands of newcomers. The City understands the importance newcomers and international talent play in sustaining our economy and creating a prosperous London.

On Saturday, October 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the City of London and its community partners will host the third annual London Newcomer Day at RBC Place.

“As one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, London not only welcomes international talent but needs it,” says Mayor Ed Holder. “Newcomers are a vital part of London’s social, economic and cultural growth. It is our diversity that will continue to drive our future forward as a City. I am excited for an event that will help bring together local partners, organizations and communities to not only celebrate new Londoners but help them on their journey to calling London home.”

This year’s event will focus on the importance employment plays in a newcomer’s journey. This free event will feature two employment panel discussions, networking opportunities, an Employer Exhibition featuring 50 employer and service organization booths, along with the opportunity to hear from successful professionals, entrepreneurs, and employment experts. This is also an excellent opportunity for London’s international students to come and meet potential employers once their formal education is completed.

“The London Newcomer Day is at its heart an event for all Londoners,” says Jill Tansley, Manager of Strategic Programs and Partnerships who leads the City’s efforts to support and attract newcomers and immigrants. “We’re excited to be able to talk to Londoners about their employment journey. It’s going to be a great day of networking and education.”

There is onsite parking for this event. This is a family-friendly event with free child-minding and storytime offered onsite.

The London Newcomer Day could not be possible without the help and support of many community partners who dedicate their time and resources to helping newcomers settle into London.
